Heartburn Diary

Tracking your triggers can help identify & manage heartburn.

Heartburn symptoms can be brought on by certain foods, drinks and even activities. It various from person to person as does the severity. Some people suffer heartburn after eating chocolate, coffee or a plate of pasta. Others will suffer if they lie down after a large meal. For some, it may be brought on by exercise. We call these "triggers". Find out what your triggers are by keeping a heartburn log or heartburn journal.

We've created a heartburn diary to help. Each day, jot down your symptoms and the time they occurred. Then note the foods you ate and your specific activities before the symptoms began. Once you notice a pattern, you can start to make changes in your routine and avoid triggers that affect you most. For instance, you can begin taking walks after a meal if inactivity triggers your heartburn.

For help in spotting your triggers or to determine if you suffer from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), show your diary to your doctor after you've kept careful notes for several weeks.
